Clean Truck Fee 2/12/2009

The Clean Truck Program begins on 2/18/2009.

The Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach will begin collecting fees in support of the Clean Truck Program (CTP). This fee was to be implemented in November of last year but was delayed pending review by the Federal Maritime Commission.

The intent of the CTP is to reduce air pollution by prohibiting older trucks (which pollute more) from servicing the port. A fee of $35 per TEU (twenty foot equivalent container) will be collected from vehicles not meeting the 2007 EPA standards as well as some additional conditions. The fee is intended to be used to provide financial assistance to help owners replace older vehicles.

At the same time, February 18, the ports will begin their new electronic gate system.
